Exhibitions to Restart in Summer 2021

The events industry in the UK has ground to a halt with the major exhibition centres around the country closing their doors due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

However, thanks to the falling transmission rate and rapid progression of the vaccine rollout, there is a tentative re-opening schedule pencilled in by event organisers and exhibitors.

In February, Boris Johnson announced a roadmap for easing restrictions in England, with June 21st 2021 the key date when all social restrictions are planned to be removed, although this depends on the transmission rate remaining low and the continuation of the vaccine rollout.Trade shows and other large scale events could therefore resume in any capacity from that date onwards although there are a few pencilled in prior to this with strict social distancing guidelines in place.

A major exhibition with a confirmed date is the National Convenience Show, one of the biggest events in the retail calendar, now scheduled for 5th - 7th July 2021.

It promises to be a big summer for trade shows and other events with some key dates for the diary below. Please be aware that some of these dates may change due to the ongoing restrictions, so please double-check with the event organiser:

A New Industry-Wide Safety Benchmark

It is likely that events will look a lot different from the pre-Covid world, with hygiene and social distancing measures to create a safe environment.

Reopening guidelines depend on the individual venue although there with the following likely to be implemented to ensure the safety of both exhibitors and visitors.

  • Multiple, distinct entrances to the venue to allow for social distancing.

  • Increased ventilation.

  • Food & beverage suppliers maintain strict hygiene guidelines.

  • New cleaning procedures run at regular intervals

  • Hand sanitiser available at multiple points on-site.
